ALL FIRED UP!

THE PODCAST

WELCOME TO THE ALL FIRED UP! PODCAST,

WITH YOUR HOST, LOUISE ADAMS

Louise is by nature a mild mannered clinical psychologist, but her alter ego – a FIERCE and fearless anti-diet crusader – is taking over! Louise specialises in helping people recover from disordered eating, and she’s COMPLETELY OVER trying to help people when the culture we live in is utterly sick, toxic, and screwed up when it comes to food, exercise, health, and body size.

Louise cannot for a second longer take the rampant injustice of a society obsessed with thinness and health. She can’t STAND how fat people are being treated like second class citizens. She is LIVID about the way weight science is being sold to make a buck off human misery.

And she’s SO OVER the diet bulls**t that she’s shelved her own introversion and started a podcast!

So welcome to All Fired Up!, where Louise delves deeply into diet culture and blows it the hell up! Each week we’ll meet brave and fascinating anti-diet warriors who are also fighting for equality, justice, and freedom. Join us, and get All Fired Up! about building a better world!

Is There a Difference Between Weight Loss & Fat Loss?

Every now and then, there’s a post which really stirs controversy. UK personal trainer Rebelfit posted a meme claiming there’s a difference between ‘weight loss’ and ‘fat loss.’ Apparently, while weight loss due to diet culture influence is a bad thing, trying to lose ‘fat weight’ for sports performance, fitness competitions, or medical reasons is not part of diet culture and therefore A-OK. Pandemonium ensued when HAES professionals protested these claims, and the thread descended into pretty wild allegations about HAES being a ‘fit shaming cult’. This week on All Fired Up!, I am joined by some fierce HAES warriors – Rebecca Scritchfield and Melissa Toler – here to set the record straight on the difference between weight loss and fat loss, and to take a deep dive into the HAES perspective on fitness and athleticism. This is a brilliant conversation about so many issues: splinter-arsing, oppression, biology, sparkly bikinis that you can’t swim in, working with elite athletes, the many faces of diet culture, why Linda Bacon isn’t a cult leader, and so much more!

Trolls

This week I have an epic and inspiring mega-rant for you, with Dani Galvin, eating disorder survivor, insta influencer and fat activist from @iamdaniadriana. Dani is unapologetically HAPPY and embracing life, and because she dares to do all of this in a larger body, she’s a troll magnet. Trolling on the internet sucks, but trolling fat people for simply existing takes things to a new low. Join us for an awesome and fierce conversation about why the world needs fat activists, the psychology of troll mentality, what it’s like to have an eating disorder when you’re fat, and much, much more!

Making Fat People Eat S**t

We all know that diet culture is full of shit, but in this week’s episode of All Fired Up the shit gets REAL. My guest is Jessica Campbell, nutritionist and medical intern, and she could not believe her eyes when she saw a documentary in which larger bodied teenage girls were being given pills full of thin people’s shit, in an effort to ‘cure them’ of their fatness. This documentary is part of a larger research trial currently running in New Zealand into faecal transplants. There is no doubt that research on the gut microbiome is fascinating stuff, but it’s also very much in its infancy. To put teens under such scrutiny and to take such a massive risk is just gobsmacking. We have no idea what the impact of eating other people’s shit will be. And does anyone care about weight stigma?? Don’t miss an incredible discussion about the ethics, impacts and implicit bias of making fat people eat shit.
